New Sharon woman gets GPS drivers out of woods | Franklin | Sun Journal

New Sharon woman gets GPS drivers out of woods | Franklin | Sun Journal: "NEW SHARON — If the Global Positioning System in your vehicle says it's so then it must be so, at least that's what the drivers of vehicles Georgia Tolman pulls out of the snow, water and mud tell her.

As the sun pulls the frost from her country dirt road Wednesday, Tolman comes out from her shop, Shadagee Snowshoe Relacing, to ask, “GPS?” Sometimes, she says, she asks, “GPS or MapQuest?”"

“Every month our users are conducting millions of searches while using GPS navigation applications. This data provides a very interesting look into the locations people across the country are searching for while on the road,” said Sal Dhanani, co-founder and vice president, products and marketing for TeleNav. “In addition to searches, our customers are relying on our products to complete millions of trips each month. Official Google Blog: Biking directions added to Google Maps

Official Google Blog: Biking directions added to Google Maps:
Google: "Today we've added biking directions and extensive bike trail data to Google Maps for the U.S. My team has been keeping close tabs on all the public support for biking directions that’s been steadily coming in, but we knew that when we added the feature, we wanted to do it right: we wanted to include as much bike trail data as possible, provide efficient routes, allow riders to customize their trip, make use of bike lanes, calculate rider-friendly routes that avoid big hills and customize the look of the map for cycling to encourage folks to hop on their bikes. So that's exactly what we've done."
